When the connection drops or access changes
Networks drop and access changes. This page explains what Colletta does in each case, what happens to your unsent changes, and why the screen changed.
The connection drops
Section titled “The connection drops”When everything you typed has reached the server, the status in the header says saved. After a short drop, Colletta reconnects quietly, without interrupting you. If it can’t, the status says reconnecting, or offline when the device has no network at all.
You can keep editing an open document while the connection is down. A note says: “Your changes since then are saved on this device and sent when the connection returns, even if you close this tab.” If the browser allows the site to store data, your unsent changes are kept in this browser, for you and that document, through going back, closing the tab, reloading or a crash. The next time you open the document with a connection, they’re sent and merged with everyone else’s, without duplicates. In a private window or with site storage blocked, keep the tab open until the connection returns.
Changes waiting on a device are deleted once they’re sent, when you log out, when another person signs in in this browser, or after 30 days. Clearing the browser’s site data removes them too. The workspace home page lists them under Waiting to be sent, with Download and Discard, and opening a document from there sends its changes.
If the browser can’t save your changes
Section titled “If the browser can’t save your changes”Some browsers and settings don’t allow storage, such as a private window. Then the note says your changes are “kept in this tab; keep it open”. If you try to close or reload the tab, or open another document, before they’re sent, Colletta asks first: Leave with changes not sent? Choose Cancel to stay until they’re sent. Leave anyway loses them.
If you can’t edit or open it when you come back
Section titled “If you can’t edit or open it when you come back”Sometimes your access changes while your edits are waiting to be sent. If you can no longer edit the document, a Changes not sent bar appears when you open it. Choose Download your version to keep your text as a file, or Discard to let it go.
The same choice appears if you can no longer open the document at all, because your access was removed or the document was deleted or restricted while you were disconnected. You find Changes not sent under “You no longer have access”, or on the “Not found” page for that document. Nothing is sent to the server. Download your version before you discard it or log out, because stored changes are also removed after 30 days, when another person signs in in this browser, or when the browser’s site data is cleared.
Your access changes
Section titled “Your access changes”When your access changes, an open document responds at once, without a reload:
- Changed to Can view: “Access changed: you can now only read this document.” The text becomes read-only.
- Changed to Can edit: “Access changed: you can now edit this document.”
- Access removed: “You no longer have access to this document.” The text becomes read-only at once, and the document disappears from your sidebar. To work on it again, ask someone with Full access to share it with you.
